You'll meet a tall dark stranger (who wont mug you)

Title: You’ll meet a tall dark stranger
Directed by: Woody Allen
Written by: Woody Allen
Starring: Josh Brolin, Antonio Banderas, Naomi Watts and Anthony Hopkins

Woody Allen of old is back with his latest offering in “You’ll meet a tall dark stranger”. The film is essentially about the folly and short-sightedness of people in 21st century London and how instant gratification always trumps sense and rationality. The film follows 6 people as they toddle through their existence with temptation knocking on their door in the form of sexual and romantic bliss. It features a star-studded cast who give fantastic performances and insight into arrested development with a sincerity and tenderness which make their performances wholly believable and covertly humorous. It’s a comedy geared at an older generation, not because its jokes stink of the 20th century but rather because the characters themselves embark on foolish escapades which seem wholly feasible until actually embarked upon. These include, adultery, researching the occult, intellectual theft, midlife crisis and living beyond your means. A mention must be made of Gemma Jones, whose balls to the walls hilarious as Helena Shebritch a recently divorced older women who seeks advice from a fortune teller and takes everything she says as fact.

It’s Allen at his best sprinkled with a self-reflective humour only someone as narcisstic as fans would enjoy.

I give it 8 hoers
